SRIf you are all fired up after watching Star Trek on DVD or Blu-ray then play a game of Star Rangers on your iPhone and you’ll feel like Kirk zapping the bad guys. Just like your favorite starship, you have shields, warp drive, photon torpedoes, a galactic map and long range sensors all at your fingertips. Defend your bases scattered throughout the galaxy in real time as the hostile Lanz-trinzini attempt to surround and destroy them. (And you too if you get caught between them!) Get into a bind and you too can punch the warp drive to get out of danger faster than you got into it, just like a real starship captain. So what are you waiting for? Warp on over to iTunes and…yep…beam your copy down today! For more information vist the ANALOGretro website.

ZuneHDLooking to dump your iPod for a “slick” new Zune HD? You might want to check out Five Myths of the Zune HD. All of that cutting edge tech packed into the new Zune might just have a bit too much of an edge. Yea, the link takes you to an Apple-oriented site, but do you really think a website run by Microsoft fanboys is going to give any (real) negative commentary to the first Zune to get any potential respect? Either way, it’s an interesting read. I welcome the new Zune and some of its features – it might bring some competition for Apple, which will benefit consumers on the iPod front.

Of course the Zune isn’t going to get much love from Mac users in the short term, as it’s not compatible, though workaround’s are already cropping up. And app-wise the Zune has a long, long way to go to catch up with the App Store, though some of the announced games and Xbox 360 connectability sound exciting.

Check out the Zune HD 32 Tech Specs here.

wordpressiphone2I downloaded this Oct 8, 2008. It’s a free app. The ability and ease to blog on-the-run means I can submit them from wherever I am, or when I get to a cell or wifi connection. Those blogs are mostly updates or shorter blocks of text as I’m not up for cranking out a 2000 word piece of work on a virtual keypad. But it gives me the ability to post thoughts on this site from wherever & whenever instead of at the end of the day, and in more coherent blocks of text then just a Tweet. A bit of history first. PDA’s aren’t new to me. Way, way back I had handhelds like the Sharp Wizard, Casio B.O.S.S., the 1st gen Newton, a myriad of Palms, and Sony Clie’s, plus a few others I can’t think of right now. The Clie PEG-NX70v probably ranks as one of my favorite consumer electronics devices of all time, along with the Palm T5 (which ran the newer OS, had wi-fi, via an SD card, and was light & slim). I also have a 1st gen iPod so it’s not like I’m a noob in any of these areas.

After the 1st gen iPod, I picked up a silver iPod mini, but then decided no more iPods until the release of the iPhone. But wait – the iPhone was years away and there weren’t even rumors of it for what seemed like eons. But I imagined what the ultimate PDA would be and it was the iPhone. Apple eventually fulfilled my dream and the iPhone has become my PDA. Read the rest of this entry »
